To the residents and business owners of Union Point:
The City of Union Point recently completed a survey of homes and other buildings located within the boundaries of our historic district. We want to inform you that your property could possibly be included within this district. A current map is enclosed for your reference.
The district originally created in 1990 and recently amended is recognized by the State of Georgia for its historic value. This is a point of pride for our community; the district was established to protect the unique architectural styles heritage and esthetic contributions that are important to the overall history and future growth of Union Point.
We hope you agree that protecting your historic area is essential to maintaining the charm and appeal of our community, making Union Point a vibrant place. While change is inevitable, we request that any plans for your alterations or changes (to EXTERIORS ONLY and signage for businesses) be submitted to the City of Union Point, City Hall.
Owners of homes and businesses are required to follow certain ordinance and guidelines set forth by our local historic preservation commission, which include regulations regarding signage and exterior renovations. This does not prevent you from making changes, it simply ensures specific procedures are followed. A Certificate of Appropriateness is required before changes are made. The Commission has the authority to either approve or deny submitted requests, and we welcome your input.
